Manual Osteopathy
Osteopathy is a drug-free, non-invasive manual therapy that aims to improve health across all body systems by manipulating and strengthening the musculoskeletal framework. A manual osteopath will focus on the joints, muscles, and spine. Treatment aims to positively affect the body’s nervous, circulatory, and lymphatic systems. Manual means that both diagnosis and treatment are carried out with the hands. Manual Osteopathy is a complementary therapy. It is used alongside conventional treatment to improve health. However, manual osteopaths are also qualified practitioners. They are specialized in manual osteopathy. Craniosacral Therapy
CST is a non-invasive, hands-on therapy that aims to enhance the body’s own healing capabilities.
According to the some respectable institute Craniosacral therapist uses a touch of under 5 grams to “release restrictions in the craniosacral system to improve the functioning of the central nervous system.”
This light touch is said to affect the pressure and circulation of cerebrospinal fluid, which is the fluid around the brain and spinal cord. This process is thought to relieve pain and dysfunction.
Practitioners claim that CST can be carried out as a standalone treatment or used in conjunction with medical or other alternative therapies.
Visceral Manipulation
Visceral Manipulation (VM) is a gentle manual therapy technique that assesses the relationship between the body’s organs (e.g. bladder, bowel, uterus, etc) and others structures, like muscles, fascia, ligaments and joints.
The organs in our body have a certain range of movement that is normal, just like our joints, they need to move within a normal range so we can function.
The movement of an organ can be restricted by surgical scars, adhesions, infection, illness, poor posture or traumatic injury. A restriction prevents the “gliding and sliding” action of the organ over other structures within the body, creating an area of fixation. Our body learns to accommodate by moving around this area of tension, and over time this repeated movement leads to chronic irritation and inflammation causing musculoskeletal, neural and visceral dysfunction.
Treatment
Osteopathy treatments use a wide range of hands-on, manual techniques to help restore balance within the body. When the body and its systems are in balance, you will feel better, become stronger, and have more energy.
Some of the various treatments and techniques your Osteopath could use include:
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep Tissue Pressure
Joint Manipulation
Stretching of the Soft Tissues
Strengthening Exercises
Ligament Manipulation
Spinal Adjustments
Cranial Massage
Hot and Cold Compressions
